Grandma's Marathon : Bananas!

Part II
I puzzled over what energized us to go scurrying up Lemon Drop Hill .. until I read on someone's blog a mention of....

... Bananas at mile 20! Now I remember!
There was a row of unattended boxes, filled with banana peels.. and one box with left over cut banana halves. And we each grabbed one on the way by.

Today I received a wonderful package in the mail ... an age group award. .. Lovely curved piece of crystal, etched with the Grandma's Marathon logo, date, and award information. Our longest recorded marathon time .. but hurrah ... a treasured award.

CONGRATS on the AG award! I've never tried eating a banana during a marathon but would guess that the carbs & potassium would be a good thing, esp. late in the race.

WOW! Congrats to YOU Sunshine!

I always liked the oranges that they have at the water stop just near the entrance to downtown.

That is, when I've run fast enough to get to the stop when they still have oranges!

Always the problem for us... when they still have ... oranges, bananas, water, sponges, goo, fresh strawberries... whatever other treat ...

Thanks for your comment on Zoom Yah Yah! I didn't think I'd get dizzy running all the laps like others were concerned about. This race got some of the best race reviews I've ever read on MarathonGuide.com. I'm so excited to be running it!!

Wow, congrats on a beautiful award!

I like bananas during a race, or grapes. Not much other fruit though.

Beautiful! And well deserved. They always say if you show up often enough or get old enough, you are sure to win something. In your case, you certainly run enough! Congrats! I'll have to remember that banana trick.

Found you via the comments on my site. Thanks for stopping by, and congrats to you!

I did post a very brief report, not having much to say about a race we failed to train for. However, we did make it across the finish line before they started opening the road back up for traffic. :)

How cool is that? Congratulations.

I am still investigating nutrition for my long runs. It seems that no matter what I use, Or how I prepare, it gets to me before the end.

I'll try bananas. Whatever it takes, I'm Willing!
