(Little Elk Creek Church 150th Anniversary was posted last Monday... see below.)
Sweet Pea and I had a great run today on Gateway Trail ... in spite of maybe 60 bicycle riders getting tuned up for the Great River Energy Bicycle Festival that starts Wednesday and finishes in Stillwater MN on next Sunday. . . . . Bicycle Festival
Most of those self-important amateur athletes were oblivious of the safety benefit of giving an "on your left" as they went speeding by.
We stayed particularly alert.
An added delight today was the presence of so many (16-18) children between the ages of 5 and 12 on bicycles ... having a Sunday ride with their parents and friends. We cheered them all as we met them.
July "Runner's World", p.33: "Fast Forward ... Progression runs fine-tune your pacing, boost your fitness, and ramp up your speed."
We ran 4 miles out and 4 miles back. Each mile back was faster than that mile had been on the way out. Our speediest mile was the final one. OK!
Can't believe I went off today without my camera.

Thank you for stopping by my blog! Reading yours today I saw that you mentioned forgetting your camera, I couldn't believe that I forgot mine today too! While running on the trail I came across 3 Momma Geese with their babies! It would have been a great picture!
I look forward to reading more of your journal!
Best wishes for a great week!
I ran the MMRF today because I thought about you. thank you for making me aware.
Sounds like some great negative splits on your run!
Sounds like it was an enjoyable day;
Negative splits are always nice. I never seem to be able to do it, so good for the two of you!
Pesky adult bicyclists!
Hey, that's the way to run! I tend to be fast (relatively speaking) on the way out and slow on the way back. I can't seem to control it! As for bikers not giving an "on your left" I know what you mean and I bike too! I get a little concerned when one goes whizzing by and I didn't even know they were back there. An accident waiting to happen!
Great job on the run...the way back is usually my slowest.
Bikers should know better than to just whiz by.

I love to run on the path next to the Platte River. I do not wear earphones, though. It would just be too scary with all of the bicyclists.
Most bicyclist do not warn. Warnings are to be done as part of the posted rules, as is the speed limit of 15 MPH.
To be safe, though, I don't wear the earphones.
In my last half-marathon, I was able to give myself negative splits. Seemingly, it came out of nowhere. I was feeling so good and so confident, I sped up and succeeded!
After all, even an older turtle, such as myself, can have a great day at a race!
Pretty great negative splits! I have to admire that dedication!
